27 August 2010 - 29 August 2010
Price: £200.00
Once again, we are inviting you to join us for a weekend in Scotland's capital city for fun and games at Festival time. Having listened to our travellers very carefully, we've done a bit more tweaking to the itinerary in order to meet the needs of all our friends. This year's Fancy will included a basic package of luxury coach travel, 2 nights B&B accommodation and the Edinburgh Tattoo. However we will be offering additional attractions at optional extra costs as shown below. This will allow you more control over what YOU want to do.
So, how does it all work? Listed in our itinerary are the optional attractions, shown in blue. Each one is only £10.00 per person and shuttle transport is free. Just indicate your choices, if any, when booking. We'll then add them to your basic holiday charge. It couldn't be easier!

Friday, sees us heading up the North Tyne Valley and into the Scottish Borders. We're going to make a stop at Melrose where there will be time for coffee and a snack. There will also be time to explore this interesting little town and its beautiful Abbey. We then continue our journey through the Borders heading for Edinburgh where, after a mini tour of the City centre, we check in at 3 star Chancellors Court, our home for the next two nights. The rest of the weekend is free for you to do as you wish, but this could be an ideal opportunity for you to think about one of our options. Option '1' is the twenty four hour pass on Edinburgh's famous "OPEN TOP TOUR BUSES". These tours are great fun and you can hop on and off at interesting places en route. Option '2' is one of the equally famous "GHOST AND GHOULS TOURS" which take you through the closes and into the underground vaults of old Edinburgh. These tours are also great fun with the experienced Mercat Tour guides giving you a nice blend of fact and fiction liberally mixed with humour. We should point out that, as there are quite a lot of steps involved, this tour might prove a bit much for those with walking difficulties.
Day 2: Saturday
After the biggest breakfast you've ever had, there are more optional attractions for you to consider. Option '3' is a morning "CRUISE ON THE FIRTH OF FORTH", which takes us from Queensferry under the great Forth Bridges to the island of Inchcolm. In addition to the enormous numbers of seabirds located in this part of the Forth, there is also a good chance of seeing some of the seals that colonise the area. Our boat serves refreshments and has a licensed bar. Back on dry land, there will be time to explore and have lunch in the ancient fishing village of South Queensferry. Option '4' is the same cruise, but with the additional opportunity to "LAND ON AND VISIT INCHCOLM ISLAND" (this option involves purchasing option '3' as well). Those taking part in these two cruise options will be back in the City centre by mid afternoon. Option '5' is the Saturday afternoon version of the "GHOST AND GHOULS TOURS". Our final attraction for Saturday, which is included in your tour cost, is our visit to one of the World's great entertainment spectacles, the final performance of this year's Edinburgh Military Tattoo which is now in its 60th year. This year's programme will include performers from all over the world in addition to the ever popular massed pipes and drums from all the Scottish regiments. An amazing fireworks display will bring this year's Edinburgh Military Tattoo to an end. What a fantastic evening this promises to be, after which we will shuttle you back to Chancellors Court, unless you want stay on in the City centre where there will be plenty to do till dawn!
Day 3: Sunday
Having had another huge buffet breakfast, we load our bags onto our luxury coach, but there's still plenty of time to do your own thing or buy into one of our two remaining options. Option '6' is a visit to one of the UK's top attractions, the "ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA". This tour gives you a unique opportunity to explore this beautiful ship which became such a special home and much loved means of getting around the World for HM the Queen. After this visit, you will have time for lunch, and to have a look around the very impressive Ocean Terminal, one of Scotland's better shopping malls. Option '7' takes you across the Firth of Forth to North Queensferry where we find "DEEP SEA WORLD", now recognised as one of Scotland's leading visitor attractions. In addition to the huge number of live exhibits on show, you will be able to walk through one of Europe's longest underwater sea tunnels where you will be surrounded by huge numbers of amazing sea creatures of all descriptions. After this visit, you will also have an opportunity to visit Ocean Terminal.
And now it really is time for us to head for home. Our fabulous weekend ends with our return through the Scottish Borders, and, after a coffee/tea stop in Jedburgh and a chance to top up on our shortbread, we cross the border back into England and should arrive back in South Tynedale about 6.30pm.
Over the weekend, while in Edinburgh, we will be running a free shuttle service between Chancellors Court and the City centre, and to our optional attractions. We will give you departure points and times that weekend. However, if you wish to travel to the city centre, without using our shuttle service, the following public service buses run every ten minutes from opposite the Commonwealth Pool; '14', '30' and '33'. Contact reception if you want a Taxi. Alternatively, it is a pleasant fifteen minute walk through the newer parts of the 'Old Town'.
This tour offers fantastic value and includes, in the basic package, 3 star Bed & Breakfast for two nights at Chancellors Court, the Edinburgh Tattoo, luxury coach travel to and from Edinburgh, escorted tour through the Borders and Edinburgh, and coach shuttle service over the weekend. Extra attractions are available at a fee of £10.00 per person per option.
